The 24 hour Spinathon
Raising vital funds for the Newborn Intensive Care Unit at The Royal.
“To us Joe was our entire world and not many people got to meet him because he was so unwell. It's really special to us to know that his legacy lives on. He wasn’t just on this planet for 36 days, he is a big part of the NICU… and of the lives of people who are involved in the 24 Hour Spinathon.”
- Jayne Blackwell, Joe's Mum
ABOUT THE 24 HOUR SPINATHON
The 24 Hour Spinathon is a studio cycling event where teams of up to 12 people keep their bikes spinning for 24 consecutive hours to raise much needed funds for the Newborn Intensive Care Unit at The Royal Hospital for Women.
Since its inception, the Spinathon has raised nearly $370,000 for premature and critically ill newborns.
Spearheaded by Mike and Jayne Blackwell in memory of their son Joe, the Spinathon has grown significantly to honour all babies that pass through the doors of The Royal's NICU - more than 1,000 annually.
The money raised from this incredible event has funded lifesaving research and equipment in the unit - transforming the lifelong health of countless premature and critically ill newborns.
