WOMEN'S HEALTH WEEK

Women’s Health Week is a time for women to put themselves first and make positive changes that can last a lifetime. 

The Royal Hospital for Women is an internationally-renowned leader in women’s health and is the only specialist and dedicated women’s hospital in New South Wales. The Royal provides holistic care to girls and women of all ages.

Renowned for its exceptional midwifery and birthing services, The Royal helps birth 4,000 babies each year. The hospital also provides so much more in specialised women’s health. Individualised care is delivered for more than 6,000 women whose conditions are represented in areas of gynaecology, menopause, breast cancer, endometrial disease, gynaecological oncology, adolescent gynaecology, fertility, genetics and reproductive medicine. 

This Women’s Health Week we will be sharing the knowledge and experience of The Royal in women’s health, and information to help women of all ages make positive changes in their life.

KEYNOTE TALK FERTILITY INSIGHTS

PROFESSOR BILL LEDGER
Head & Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology
University of New South Wales

In this talk we will cover what you might need to consider in your 20s, 30s and 40s regarding fertility. We will explore the science and the facts behind preserving fertility through egg freezing, IVF, egg donors and surrogacy, and fertility options for same sex couples.

We ask why egg freezing might be a good idea, who should (and should not) consider it, what you’d have to do and how well it might work. We will also end with a look into the future of fertility medicine.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Professor William Ledger is Head of Discipline of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, School of Women's and Children's Health, Faculty of Medicine at the University of New South Wales, Director of Reproductive Medicine, Royal Hospital for Women and Director, Research and Development, with IVFAustralia in Sydney.

His research interests focus on in vitro fertilisation and assisted reproduction, impacts of reproductive disorders such as gynaecological cancer, endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome on quality of life, reproductive effects of cancer treatment and health economic and demographic aspects of infertility. He is married, with three sons.
