WHERE WILL THE FUNDS GO?
The WHEAT (withholding feeds around blood transfusion) is a research trial to help prevent necrotising enterocolitis in premature babies. It is a national, multi-centre trial led by The Royal Hospital for Women NICU. This major trial was made possible thanks to the pilot trial that funded by MCRF in withholding feeding.
As the trial leader, the NICU is currently working on recruiting and establishing a number of additional sites across New South Wales and Australia. MCRF funding will help support the NICU research nurse conducting the trial locally at The Royal including education, training, data management. Recruitment and establishment of additional sites (site set up, education, and training) will also be made possible through MCRF support.
