BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

We’re so proud of the extraordinary nurses who work here at The Royal Hospital for Women. One of them, Helen Conlon, was interviewed by ABC Radio’s Robbie Buck this morning to talk about Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Helen is one of six metastastic breast care nurses in Australia, funded by The McGrath Foundation through The Royal Hospital for Women Foundation.

Helen supports more than 90 metastatic breast cancer patients across the Randwick Hospitals Campus. Her role is to help patients manage the physical and emotional turmoil of the disease. She helps them deal with the side effects of treatment, sits with them at every appointment, and explains anything they may not understand.

“What nurses like me can do is to help people to live as long as possible, staying as well as possible,” Helen says.

Trish O’Brien, the CEO of The Royal Hospital for Women Foundation, says:

“Having an understanding soul like Helen there to help patients grapple with life choices during the toughest time in their life is indispensable.”

Your donation to The Royal Hospital for Women Foundation will help to fund amazing iniatives like this.
