100 Miles for Premature Babies

This March I’m running 100 miles and raising funds for premature babies at The Royal Hospital for Women in Randwick, Australia (‘The Royal’).

Why am I fundraising for a hospital in Australia that cares for newborns you ask? A dear friend works at the hospital shared this heart-wrenching video that resonated with me as a mum.

Seeing this footage of newborns battling to stay alive left me heartbroken. The Royal’s Newborn Intensive Care Unit (‘NICU’) cares for thousands of premature babies fighting for every breath of their life.

As most of you know, I am a young single mum of three beautiful babies - 11, 9, and 2.  I was lucky enough to have all 3 of my children extremely healthy and thriving, and have been able to enjoy that motherhood has to give. Having my three babies with me gives me a reason to wake up in the morning, a reason not to lose hope, and a reason to want to make a difference.

Working as a community care worker, caring for vulnerable adults - I’m just so passionate about and believe that everyone deserves access to the best possible when they need it most.

Hearing of the work that goes on inside The Royal’s NICU has completely touched me as I was so very lucky to not have experienced this with my three babies. My heart goes out to parents who should be enjoying all moments but are for months watching their baby hoping and praying they’ll make another day!

My 100 mile run over March will be nothing compared to what the parents of premature babies endure. Donations to 100-mile run will help provide life-saving equipment that will keep premature babies breathing and research that may even send them home sooner.
