About The Fertility & Research Centre
The Royal Hospital for Women in Randwick opened its landmark Fertility & Research Centre (FRC) in 2017. The construction of the clinic was made possible through $1.6M in philanthropic funding, raised by The Royal Hospital for Women Foundation. The FRC, which sits within the Department of Reproductive Medicine at the Royal Hospital for Women, has since been complemented by a fully integrated multi-million dollar laboratory within The Royal that was opened in November 2019 by the NSW Minister for Health, Brad Hazzard.
When the NSW Government agreed to cover publicly funded fertility treatments in three Sydney hospitals, The Royal Hospital for Women's Fertility & Research Centre became the first dedicated oncofertility centre in Australia. It is the only fertility centre in a public hospital setting to combine comprehensive, low-cost fertility programs, IVF and clinical research, together with oncofertility services.
This innovative collaboration between scientific, clinical and medical disciplines positions the FRC as a leading centre of clinical and research excellence. An Australian first, the alliance is respected within international circles, bringing The Royal into focus as a hub of biological, medical and psychological research with national and global colleagues.
Additionally, the FRC proudly plays a significant part in world-class translational research in the field of genetic screening, helping to eliminate devastating genetic disorders from hereditary family lines. So where patients are known carriers of genetic disorders, or if they're undergoing cancer treatments, the FRC can provide a full suite of fertility consultations, advice and emotional support that provides hope for future generations.
How to access treatment and services as a patient
