Bereavement Support
Support grieving families with a donation to The Royal's Bereavement Support Fund.
Thank you for helping us provide support for families who have suffered the devastating loss of a baby.
It is hard to imagine how devastating it is when a family loses a much wanted pregnancy or baby.
In NSW the law states that if a pregnancy ends after 20 weeks gestation the family are obligated to arrange a burial or cremation for their baby. Whilst most families can access a bereavement support payment from Centrelink to assist with the costs associated with this, some families are ineligible for support.
In addition to their grief these families are impacted by extreme financial stress at a time when they are trying to lay their child to rest.
Your donation would have a huge impact for these families. The cost of making arrangements can range from $500 to upwards of $4000 depending on whether the family cremate or bury their baby.
The Social Work team will be involved in conducting financial assessments for individual families and would distribute donated funds to those most in need.
Having the opportunity to make dignified arrangements for their baby and to take some time to heal from their loss will make the world of difference at such a difficult time for vulnerable families at The Royal Hospital for Women.
