Mya's fundraiser for the NICU

By Mary Mateer

Mya's NICU thank you!

After spending months in hospital with our daughter Mya, it would be impossible not to feel grateful for the care, support, and kindness we have received.

From the NICU, to Intensive Care, to Sydney Kids, every single staff member has played a part in helping Mya through the toughest start to life. But there was something especially special about the NICU. The nurses and midwives there have hearts of gold. Whether it’s their training or simply the kind of people they are, they bring comfort, compassion, and hope to families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

One thing that shocked me was learning that around 80% of NICU equipment is funded through donations, with only 20% government funded. Personally, I think that should be the other way around.

Nobody signs up for their baby to need intensive care. Nobody expects to watch their newborn connected to monitors, machines, and life-saving equipment. Yet for many families, this becomes their reality overnight.

While sitting beside Mya’s hospital bed, I often looked around and realised just how fortunate we were that she had everything she needed to give her the best chance possible. From medical equipment and monitors to the little comforts that help families get through each day, every donation helps make that possible.

For this reason, we have created this fundraiser to help raise awareness and give back to the NICU that has given so much to our family. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will make a difference and help ensure future babies and families continue to receive the incredible care and support that we were so lucky to receive.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support. ❤️

Love,

Mya, Owen & Mary x
