Maddie's First Birthday Fundraiser

I'm fundraising for The Royal Hospital for Women Foundation

Hi everyone,

Our beautiful daughter Maddie was born on 16th June 2025 and tragically passed away from Necrotising Enterocolitis (NEC) when she was just 6 days old. We are setting up this fundraising page to raise money for the Madison Capaldi Research Fund (MCRF) in honour of our Maddie's upcoming first birthday.

Our goal is to raise $5000 which will be donated in Maddie's honour to the Madison Capaldi Research Fund. Your contribution, no matter the amount will help us reach this goal.

NEC is a devastating intestinal disease that primarily affects premature and medically fragile babies. NEC leads to severe inflammation in the intestine, often resulting in bacterial infection, and in the most severe cases, necrosis (tissue death) in the baby's gut. It often comes on suddenly, without warning and progresses quickly and can be fatal.

NEC is a complex disease, without a single cause and is a leading cause of death for premature babies. There is an urgent need to advance NEC research because right now there aren't adequate tools or treatments to prevent NEC.

The Madison Capaldi Research Fund (MCRF) is a charitable fund established by Joe and Danielle Capaldi in honour of their daughter Madison who also died from NEC at just 8 weeks old.

Funds raised through the MCRF support research into NEC and other illnesses affecting premature babies at the Royal Hospital For Women's NICU with the aim to improve survival rates and treatments for precious babies.

Maddie's life may have been short, but her light shines on. This fundraiser is just one of the many ways we hope to honour Maddie and carry forward her legacy.
