Friday 8th Dec
Our gorgeous Andy was born on Tuesday 5th Dec and was quickly transferred to The Royal NICU where he has been receiving the most outstanding care since. 

Our Story

Saturday 9th Dec
Andy is our miracle baby all around. 

An IVF pregnancy and a hard pregnancy at that, we were thrilled to make it to almost 37 weeks!

Andy was born at 8:06am on Tues 5th Dec at Kareena Private Hospital. He was born at 36+5 weeks and weighed in at 4.055kg.

At first everything was perfect, until it wasn’t and Andy stopped breathing one minute after he was born and required immediate CPR.

CPR lasted for 10 minutes, Lee and I were still in the room and we had gone into shock. Andy was quickly taken to Kareena Hospitals SCN. 

NETS (Neonatal Emergency Transport Service) arrived and started cooling Andy to help reduce the risks of brain damage. Lee and Andy were then transferred to The Royal Hospital for Women Neonatal intensive Care Unit where Andy was placed on a cooling mat for 72 hours. 
I was transferred a few hours later.

The cooling mat is the only proven way to reduce the risk of brain damage if used within the first 6 hours of life. Andy was placed on the mat at 5 hours old. 

It is now Saturday at 3am. Andy is now being warmed and will have an MRI on Sunday to check out what his brain is doing. 

Lee and I are yet to hold our bubby, but we know it’s for the best and that he is in the best place. 

For an idea, it would cost around $30,000 a day for Andy’s care. He is sedated with morphine, he has a one on one nurse, and he is connected up to multiple life saving machines. 

Over 70% of the life saving equipment in the NICU has been funded through donations, so you can see why this fundraiser is so important to us!

Day 17!

Thursday 21st Dec
Andy is now 17 days old and gestation of 39 weeks. 

Over the past week or so since our last update Andy has made lots of improvement.

He has been a bit of a bugger and goes backwards A LOT but overall he is in much better shape.
He looks fantastic, his brain MRI showed no obvious signs of brain damage and he is no longer on sedatives, anti seizure meds or intubation. 
He has spent about 5 days on cpap and now on a low dosage of high flow. We have tried unsuccessfully twice to take him off high flow but both times he doesn’t last longer than two hours without the breathing support. 

We still have a fair way to go! But we will get there xx
