World Social Work Day

Your donation this World Social Work Day provides practical support to thousands of patients cared for by The Royal's Social Work team each year.

Support from donors helps remoe the financial stress from women and their families while they're receiving specialist care, often far from home, or experiencing unimaginable loss.

How donations help.

"My role is meaningful in that the work I do impacts positively on people's lives at very stressful times.

In my day to day work I look after families who have a baby that is admitted to the Newborn Care Centre or Maternal Fetal Medicine for complex obstetric care - providing support to them in what can be an incredibly stressful time.

Support from donors for vouchers and accommodation is incredible. When people are unwell and focusing on their health having some financial support to ease their burden is an incredible gift. Without the support from donors we would not be able to provide these supports."

The important role of social workers.

"My role at The Royal spans across Gynaecology and Breast Services caring for women at all stages of their journey including end of life - a subject which is of particular interest to me, I find it nurturing and legitimate meaningful work.

Today is a day to celebrate the dedication of social workers who stand beside individuals, families, and communities during their most challenging moments."

Elizabeth Fitzsimmons, RHW Social Worker

The power in support.

"As a perinatal social worker, I care for women throughout their and support them with their emotional and practical needs.

It is a privilege to walk alongside women and their families during their pregnancy. It is so meaningful to be given this opportunity to help people during such a formative time, to empower them, and to provide them with the support, resources and information they need. It is also so wonderful to work alongside such skilled and inspiring social workers, their support means the world to me.

Support from donors and the community provide us with tools and resources to give to our clients who are experiencing financial, emotional and social vulnerabilities...It is an essential part of our support for women and families at the Royal."
